Over the course of an seven-week timespan, participants design, implement and assess an inquiry-based learning opportunity for their own students. The practicum experience is intended to be self-paced to allow teachers to effectively schedule time to work with students during the seven-week duration. Stages of the Practicum:Stage 1: Project definition, planning and materials developmentEach participant plans and presents an inquiry activity using the content module s/he's been exploring. Virtual colleagues and the online Field Expert for each content module offer support and feedback on teachers' designs. Each then shares and refines with the cohort student goals and expectations and a set of student materials and evaluation procedures that support inquiry. Stage 2: Classroom trials and analysis During this time, participants use their activities with their students and discuss progress with virtual colleagues. Student work is shared and displayed online in the discussion area. Where feasible, participants videotape their classrooms and analyze the tapes with their local colleagues. Stage 3: Debriefing During the final weeks of the INTEC practicum, teachers reflect on the overall experience of inquiry-based learning in the course. A portfolio of student work in the module is mounted in the discussion area as evidence of their learning through inquiry.
